How is it that you cannot crush an egg by pushing it two ends together between your hands?

Because they are simetrical.

If you want more about these kinda things,

if you blow up lots of balloons and then turn a coffee table upside down and lower it onto the balloons, then they will not pop.. you can then get into the coffee table and they STILL will not pop. this is because the weight is evenly distributed etc... I preffer to say that it's simply magic.

Something tells me this is something that you want someone to do so they spill eggs everywhere but if this is indeed true, it must be because eggs are completely simetrical so if you push it wouldbe solid.

It is very difficult because each end is the same shape as an arch. An arch distributes weight / pressure evenly across its structure. so you need to crush the entire structure not only a weakest point.

this is why you'll often see arches uses in homes and even in bridges and aquaducts ( The Roman Empire).
