I watched Idol Aid on Fox last night, celebrities for Hurricane victims, Aids victims etc. but not ONE charity is there trying to help the homeless. I feel for people in Africa, and other countries but WHAT ABOUT US!!!!!! We have veterans that have fought for our country, professionals, families etc. that have no place to sleep, not enought money to eat etc. If I try to pan handle or fly a sign then I will be harrassed, possibly jailed because I try to reach out. Aren't telethons a form of panhandlig?

  1. There are many homeless shelters, Public Housing Authority, Section 8.

You are right you do not see a lot of telethons or big fund raisers for the homeless.  There is Government Grants for the non profits that help them.

You could start in your area.  Get with your local radio stations and see if they would be interested in helping to raise money for a homeless shelter in your area.

  2. It's a hard case. There are so many people either pretending to be homeless or wanting to be homeless... Not to mention those that are homeless because of their own destructive habits and don't deserve any help at all, that it's hard to distinguish them from those that would truly benefit from the help.

I'm with you on this. A homeless veteran is a shame, but rest assured that there are subsidized facilities for homeless veterans. Most of them also train for re-employment and have work programs in house to get them on the ground with a real sense of purpose and responsibility.

Problem is, former soldiers who are like my worthless brother tend to just want to use up the services and never apply themselves to anything that they are offered until they are finally turned away.

Veteran or not, not everyone can be helped. The people would not donate to such a charity because they are aware that any money they donate is likely to be spent on someone who doesn't need it, is stealing it or for whom it will do no good.

  3. Most homeless people are actually common bums.

  4. They did have a charity for the homeless - it was for a mobile medical team that takes care of homeless men and women.

Pay more attention before you rant.
