I am a teacher and am pretty down about my life right now. I don't really care for my current job situation, I'm having issues with my friends, and my love life is majorly on the rocks. I think working on a ship might be just the exciting adventure I need right now.

  1. I've never worked for a cruise line but I have been on many.  I personally don't think I would like working on one.  We became friends with many of the staff on cruise ships and asked them many questions.  They sleep in the bottom quarters of the boat.  They work 7 days a week very long hours.  They have to sign a contract that they stay on the ship for  3 years at a time where they work every month and then get 2 or 3 months off and have to do it all over again. It's almost like you never get off the ship.  On the Royal Carribean cruise line the waitress/watergirl/bartender/laundry doer said that most of the people on the boat (customers) were very rude to her.

I hate to be negative but that is just my perception.  Try working for another resort where you wont' have to work the long, long hours.  Maybe Myrtle Beach or Florida.  I also know the money isn't all that great.  I wish you luck in finding happiness.

  2. Hey, I did it for 10 years and was the best.  You do have to sign a contract, but mine were for only 6 or 8 months, depends on what you sign on as, the longest contract there was on board was for about 9 or 10 months.  The hours are very long I was probably working 12 hours a day sometimes, but when the ship is in port you gets days and time off, to go out and do whatever.  The cabins you share with at least one other person from your department, you get to make loadsa new friends, and party, yes the passengers can be rude, but isnt it like that on land................my engagment broke off I was feeling pretty low and I went on the ship and havent looked back, I still have friends on board and they love it, its hard to start off with, but after a couple of weeks you start to see and have some great times.
