  1. Magma which has reached the surface through a volcanic eruption. The term is most commonly applied to streams of liquid rock that flow from a crater or fissure. It also refers to cooled and solidified rock.

  2. A volcano is a mountain formed above a fissure where two plates collide.  The Earth's crust is divided into 15 plates, which move in relation to each other.  The areas where plates meet, known as fault lines, can experience volcanic activity and seismic activity as well (it's why California is prone to earthquakes because it sits on a fault line where the Pacific plate and the North American plate meet).  So, when two plates collide into each other it causes intense heat and pressure, which can then cause molten rock to be forced violently upward through a volcano.

  4. Magma works its way up through the earth until enough pressure accumulates to cause it to burst through.  Rift volcanoes erupt through an open rift caused by the tectonic plates moving apart.

  5. a volcano erupts because of built up pressure from within once the pressure reaches its point the volcano erupts and pushes the magma out
