  1. Right now job market is down like everywhere else.Beach comers are down.but you will be able to find some kind of job.Hurlburt is ok base nothing special...housing is older and the new part next to the bay is for officers and higher ranks i believe unless they changed it.(ill ask hubby when he gets home)Hubby works on hurlburt..

This area does have a lot to offer but prices are HIGH because it is beach town.beaches are gorgeous good golf, fishing ,boating.crab island is where everyone goes to party on sundays and saturdays...by Mcguires irish pub under destin bridge there.

    not sure of anything else??/

we don't live on base but hubbys dental asst did live on base for long time..eglins base is bigger..it may have more options.

helen back has good pizza its free on friday afternoons..

    w cold beers its yummy!

callhans in destin has best meals..we love it good prices.

not sure of anything else you need to know??lol

  2. Depends on if you are a small town person or a big city person.

I was raised in Fort Walton Beach for much of my life and it is nice, but definitely a small town. Destin and San Destin are tourist traps, so there is more to do, but always crowded.

I would enjoy living there again, but that's because I'm a small town kind of guy, not into "night life" and that kind of thing.

Also, if you are a church person I recommend Cinco Baptist Church. My parents and grandparent attend there and it was a big part of my life growing up.

  3. I haven't been stationed there but I have been there multiple times. I am in the Army and I am blown away by the locations the Air Force and Navy have for duty stations.

Hurlburt is home to Air Force Special Operations Command and Fort Walton and Destin are in your backyard!

P.S. I would be very cautious about revealing your husband's specific job as far as being a Combat Controller in the future for PERSEC and OPSEC. That goes for all military members and families but more so for Special Operations.

    Enjoy Florida.
