How is math like a Foreign language?

  2. Just like languages have grammar, math has its own syntax (word order).  For example, just like we have to say "I kick the ball," not "kick I ball the," we have to say "4+3=7," not "=3 4+7."

    Just like languages have words that have meaning, math has symbols that have meaning (numbers, plus signs, etc.).

    In order to be successful at math, one needs to know what the symbols mean and how to put them together.  In order to be proficient in a language, one needs to know what the words mean and how to put them together.

    What is this for?  A math class in college?  Or is this for high school?
