  1. I was there in April of 2007 and it was just gorgeous there. I only used a credit card, so do not know the exchange rate. It is done automatically when you use a credit card. Sydney was beautiful. We had a hotel room over looking the sydney harbor and Opera house. I would go back in a heart beat.

  2. Okay naughty angel the currency exchange this morning is every $US is worth AUD$1.09. Honeymooning in Australia in April great idea if you want sand and surf you have to come to my home state of Queensland and i would suggest you check out the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef there is about 40 of them and they range in price from very cheap to VERY expensive but there is a lot in between so i'm certain you'll find something that suits your budget.

  3. G'day

It depends where in Australia......(we are bigger than Texas!!)

In North Queensland it is glorious weather in April....thru to October. Gets hot and wet then till March. Further South in Sydney or Melbourne it will still be pleasant in April, but a bit cool for swimming. Same for Perth ( Western Australia) and Tasmania is really Cooool.

The exchange rate is about 90 cent US to the Aussie dollar at present.

You will find food is more expensive here when eating out....though similar in Supermarkets etc. Tours etc are also fairly expensive....but on a par with most other tourist destinations around the world.

We have heaps to see and do...including eco tours, or extreme / adventure tours....so come on over!!

  4. If you do a bit of research you can see how big Australia is, so a question like that is similar to How is mid-April in America?

Where in Australia? Perth? Tasmania? Sydney? Cairns? Brisbane? Darwin?

Last time I checked A$ was about 20cents cheaper than the US$. I guess you would find going out more expensive. If you're backpacking accommodation wouldn't be very expensive.

I would recommend going to Europe for a vacation. West Europe - France, Germany, Holland for more developed world and relaxed holiday (and more expensive), Eastern Europe - Greece, Croatia, Bulgaria for what you wouldn't find in Lonely Planet and more adventures yet amazingly cheap.

  5. The currency exchange is almost exactly the same for US dollar and Aussie dollars!

Mid-April is pretty good most places, down south in Melbourne and Adelaide it might be slightly cooler than in the height of summer (as it is fall there) but Sydney and north of that should still be pretty amazing with sun and beach weather.

It is not that expensive compared to many other places - hostels are around 20 dollars and food is relatively cheap.

I was living in Melbourne for 4 years and it is the coolest place I have ever been.

Have a nice trip, you should defo go!

  6. At the moment the Australian dollar is worth about 92 US cents.  Of course that changes all the time, and I've heard predictions that they'll reach parity before the end of the year.  Certainly if you're not going until April then I wouldn't count on getting more than one Aussie dollar for each of yours.

As for weather, Australia is a pretty big place so it really depends where you are.  It'll be Autumn here in Adelaide, but if you go further north the seasons are less well-defined and once you hit the tropics there is no Autumn at all.  If you're headed for the beach, I'd suggest somewhere in Queensland.  There are some great beaches up there, and it never really gets cold.
