I don't know, when I lived in München, I had a very affordable appartment right in the middle of Schwabing.  I paid 178 DM a month at the time.  It was just a room in an appartment house where we shared the bathroom.  I guess you just have to search and get lucky.

München is an awesome place to live.  So much history and nature.  And you're close to some cool places.

Munich is a great place to live. You have a big variety of things to do, many companies are here and provide jobs, a lot of nature around to relax.

But Munich is quite expensive and apartments are rare.
