Hi guys.. I graduated last year from a mediocre university - University of wisconsin - Superior with a B.S. in Computer Science with a GPA of 2.89/4.0. I scored only 950 on my General GRE... but i have some work experience as follows:

Information Tech Assistant - 1.5 yr (part time at school)

Flash Programmer - 1 yr (part time at school )

Jr. Project Coordinator - 5 months (contract at Sun Microsystems Inc)

Production Intern (4 motnhs) - current..

I got into San diego state and Cal state long beach for my M.S, in Computer science but really wish to go to UMass Amherst. I was wondering how bad is my profile overall.. ?? do i have any chances ?

  1. Did you get rejected by Amherst?  Did you apply to Amherst?

With that resume, I would say you had a decent chance of getting into Amherst.  Amherst will have their minimum requirements posted on their website (or call the CS department secretary/dean for the info.).  If you meet the minimum requirements, then you shouldn't have a problem getting in.  Even if you didn't get the minimun GRE score, you can always study and re-take the GRE.

You do have 2 things going for you:

    1. You are a woman.  That gives you certain advantages in gaining a place in any graduate school.

    2. There is a great shortage of engineering students (including CS) right now, so there may be lots of openings.

No matter what the reputation of the school is (unless there are 100 applicants per available seat for places like Harvard, etc.), it's all about the money.  If you have the tuition, etc. then they will want your money.
