  1. i work offshore in the oil industry and dr alexi has said it all.

  2. pay..a car place..to do it and have them should you how...

  3. Crude oil is distilled to produce the various alkane fractions:

    - Petrolium gases (like methane used in gas ovens)

    - Gasoline (used in cars)

    - Kerosine (aeroplane fuel)

    - Naptha (plastics)

    - Diesel (as a fuel)

    - Fuel Oil (fuel for large ships)

    - Bitumin (for surfacing roads)

The earlier ones listed are the most useful fractions from fractionsal distillation so the heavier fractions down in the list are 'cracked' to produce more of the lighter ones.

As a result alkEnes are produced which have various uses.

    - One major use is for ethanol production (the hydration of ethene)

    - Alkenes are used widely for polymerisation to make useful materials like polythene (poly-ethene).

That is the bulk of the uses that I have covered on the GCSE syllabus but I'm sure there are more.

    Hope this helps
