  1. Well, there "is" two kinds of ozone, with different results and aspects.

    a)  Ground-level ozone (or "lower level ozone") is a more dense form which is not very stable as a molecule because it has three atoms of oxygen (O3).  This is the kind that burns your eyes and gives you headaches because it is an oxidizer which even affects metal, but over time it can become the weaker 02.

This 03 lower level ozone is created by a chemical process that works with sunlight which infiltrates the air that has hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxide particles in it, and I do not recall how this works but it can either remove some forms of hydrocarbons from the air or change the air into the creation of smog according to different circumstances, probably due to the amount of or lack of sunlight (more sunlight = more smog, less sunlight=removal of some hydrocarbons).

Ozone causes rubber to become brittle and then to break into cracks and faults, such as in tires.  It also antagonizes asthma afflicted people.

    b)  Atomospheric ozone shields earth from ultraviolet rays and is more stable because it only has two atoms of oxygen (O2).  There is an ozone layer in the atmosphere about ten to 30 miles up.  The depletion of the ozone layer over the north and south poles by chloroflurocarbons was a major concern, but that apparently (unless we are being lied to) has been slowly reversed.
