  1. Different pigments absorb different wavelengths of light. So the plant can absorb more light, and do more photosynthesis.


  2. Having more pigments simply mean that more light energy will be available for plants. Thus the rate at which photosynthesis takes place will increase. Thus overall plants will be able to produce more food.
