How is physics helpful in software enginnering?

Physics is actually helpful in a number of areas related to software.

First, it's very useful if you're going to be writing programs for researchers studying anything from computational fluid dynamics, to simulating aerodynamics for cars.

However, one less-known area is for simulating real-world actions in video games.  How do you think the distance cars skid and people fly in the area when you hit them in Grand Theft Auto on your Playstation is calculated?  Basic physics equations.
