You mean Japanese, not Kanji. Kanji is one of the three different systems that are used in written Japanese.

Yikes! It's for a tattoo? I don't mean to lecture, but that's probably a bad idea, mainly because most tattoo artists totally s***w up when writing in a foreign language. hanzismatter.com is a good place to go to see all the examples of shoddy Japanese and Chinese tattoo work that goes on in the Western world.

I am very happy that Bostezo gave a very cautious answer. The internet page which he mentioned is also very good.

I am a translator for Japanese and I feel that the answer which he gave is not how a Japanese would say it. The word 命 （inochi） does mean life, but not in the sense of "to spend it". One finds inochi in phrases like 命をとる which means to take life. "To spend life" one would say 人生を送る . To enjoy life one would say 人生を楽しむ

I strongly recommend 1) that you ask somebody who is Japanese, 2) that you rephrase your sentence so, that the Japanese person can fully understand what you mean. Then he/she will be able to phrase it and translate it correctly.

Why don't you try to find a translator on the internet. Just put in "Japanese translation" in Google or Yahoo and you will find a number of competent partners. Make sure that the translator is Japanese. It will cost something, but you can be sure that you have a good translation.
