I was just explaining this to somebody last night. Santino Marella's career is totally running on fumes these days, except the fumes are his comedy and sense of humor.  If Santino doesn't have any type of gimmick or comedy skit to be a part of, then I don't think WWE is really intrested to see what he has to offer as far as ring skills. I'm actually not going to turn my attention away from Santino's ring skills though.  I have a feeling in the very pit of my stomach that Marella is alot better in the squared circle than he is showing us.  If I were him I would use the extra time WWE was giving me besides just participating in backstage segments and WWE.com skits, and I would train hard in my free time.  Because there will be a time where WWE will get really "high" on his character and then roster cut month will come (just like the month of August) and Santino's name will be first on the list to be fired unless he can be used in the ring more.  Same deal happened with Colin Delaney.  Who doesn't want a 100 pound underdog who makes his career out of getting squashed by monster heels and recieving minimum sympathy?  The concept actually worked for a while.  But Delaney couldn't be used in the ring as a winner and so he was fired. People seem to think that Santino could follow that path.  I actually think the man vs woman gimmick is hilarious, but it's one of those things that gets real stale, real fast.  So Marella needs to take his vitamins (*wink, wink*) and say his prayers because the time will come when WWE finally asks Santino to show his full in-ring potential in a few pre-show dark matches, and if he screws  that up he wont have a WWE career.

Ok.  Here we go.  Santino Marella can, and has, beaten people before...  but because of Santino's ability to be a great humor character, and yet still have people hate him, they've decided it'd be a good time to push him again.  Lets start at the beginning.

Santino first came into the fed as a fan that "beat" Umaga, due to Bobby Lashley's interference, and suddenly was laden with the responsibility of the WWE's Intercontinental Championship.  Unfortunately, the WWE had no idea what to do with him, as his in-ring skills weren't the level that a normal IC champ would be at, so they took the belt off of him and repackaged him as a stereotypical "old country Italy" misogynist, believing a woman's place is at the stove.

The thing about it is that people grew to like Santino, because he's dumb as nails when it comes to women.  And so he started gaining popularity...  couple that with the fact that Beth is more of a man than he is, and hilarity ensues.

The reason why he's going to last as an IC championship isn't because of his talent, it's going to be from his sheer luck, flukes...  and Beth interfering.  Plain and simple.
