How is score kept for a normal high school cross country meet?

As in, how does each team earn points to beat the other team?

This is just for league meets, not invitationals.

  1. The judges keep score

  2. Lowest score wins.

Each team enters 7 runners.  The placing order of the first 5 runners to cross the finish are added to get the team score.  Example, two teams (Red and Blue) finish like this:

    1. Red

    2. Blue

    3. Blue

    4. Red

    5. Blue

    6. Red

    7. Blue

    8. Blue (fifth Blue runner)

    9. Red

    10. Red (fifth Red runner)

    11. Red

    12. Blue

    13. Blue

    14. Red

    Red: 1+4+6+9+10 = 30 points

    Blue: 2+3+5+7+8 =  25 points (Blue wins)

In the event of a tie, the decision goes to the 6th runner for each team to see who wins between those two.

  3. In Cross Country they keep score by the place you get, 1st place is 1 point, 2nd is 2 points, 3rd 3 points, 100th place 100 points, etc. The lower points in the end wins, but usually they don't add up all the way to the very last place, they mainly take the first 25 or so and if its a tie they go up until there is a winner.

  4. yes only the varsity gets scored.

jv can for the jv team score.

but there is normally 7 varsity runners.

    the top 5 get scored.

    so....

    person :          place:     points:

    teammate1       4th           4

    teammate2       8th           8

    teammate3       12th         12

    teammate4       26th         26

    teammate5       30th         30

    teammate6       46th         46

    teammate7       66th         66

then they take the top five so that would be teammate 1234&5

they add up those scores which is 80.

so that teams score is 80 and the other 2 dont get counted.

they add up the other teams scored also.

the lowest scoring team wins. so its pretty simple.

if there is a tie they add the 6th persons score to it.

    then that is who wins.

    so its not the hard.

    hope it helps =)

  5. By places.. least points wins it I think.

    1st=1 point

    2nd=2 points

    ..

    ..

    65th=nothing.. usually not counted.

They count up to a certain point.

Like. The top 20 in each varisity, junior varsity and frosh/soph division. Sometimes it goes into two or more tiers but only in 250 man races with small running spaces I suppose.

  6. well if you win the race you get one point and if you get 2nd you get 2 and if you get 3rd you get 3 , and 4 for 4 and 5 for 5th and so on. The top 5 runners on each team are added up and the team with the lowest points win.

So if you won a race, youre whole team could still not win the meet if the other 4 runners finish in a bad place

    example

    1st place----1pt

    17th place----17pts

    200th place--200pts

    201st place--201pts

    210th place--210pts

    overall team score--629 pts

the best possible score is 15

    1+2+3+4+5=15

  7. Okay so I run in cross country at my school so I know how it is done. So the lowest score wins and only the first five runners on each team count in the score.  So the places  keep score for them selves like 1st place is 1 point, 2nd place is 2points, etc.
