How is shyness developed?

What I am seeking from this question is answers to the following questions:

What is shyness?

Is shyness an illness?

Is shyness a psychological problem?

Is shyness caused by humiliation?

It is from being in a critical environment (not neccessarily parents but early schoolyard experiences ie. teachers) It is not a disease as much as a social conditioning. Volunteer or better yet join a toastmasters public speaking group. if u are young, join a school club.
