Because it is expanding. And you cannot go far enough, as the edge keeps moving out at the speed of light, so not only can't you catch up, you can't even hope to see the edge. So we will never know what lies beyond (if this concept even has any meaning in the context of an expanding universe).

The limits of space is not yet really defined. It could be infinite, or it could be finite (follow-through from the bing bang theory). If indeed it has limits, then space will theoretically curve in itself. If, for example, you have the technology to travel through space in a rocket and go off in one direction, you'll end up emerging from the opposite direction without you even noticing it.

Because space-time is the fabric of existence (at least, in our dimension), and theoretically, you can't and won't see or meet its limits, as illustrated above.

It just is, the human mind can not comprehend that something doesn't have an end point or a beginning point for that matter.

Ask this question, if space does end then what is there. Do you just travel out of space and into some other kind of space.
