Question:

How is telling people the truth being "hateful"?

I thought it was commonly known that "the truth hurts". I know there are two ways to tell someone something (tactfully and bluntly), but the truth is the truth regardless of the method of presentation.

  1. UR right, tell it like it is.

  2. Well, if you tell people the truth in a blunt way, they may see it as hateful because of the careless way you told them.  Yes, the truth hurts, but it's less hurtful if you tell people in a tactful way.

  3. Depend on the situation. If you tell someone that he is fat, even if he is fat, he might take it as an insult and punch you in the kisser. So telling the truth bluntly is not always good for you.

  4. People become angry because even though the rational part of us may want to hear the truth, the other part of us doesn't.  And, sometimes as much as we say we want to hear the truth we don't.

Just remember if you can't tell the truth, be vague ;)

  5. the truth is relative

  6. The "truth" is often colored by perspective.  I may think that your haircut is ugly, but it may in truth, be the height of fashion, and your partner may think it is cute and s**y.  The truth of your haircut is subjective.

Other time, telling the truth at all, unasked, can be at least unloving, if not exactly hateful.  Like if I can't stand someone and I think he's ugly, just blurting that out, especially if there are other people around, is pretty mean, even if it is the truth.

Caring for the feelings of others is often more valuable to me than a strict recital of every accurate fact.

  7. it depends on the situation
