How is the 800m scored?

Question

I was just at a track meet and I'm wondering how the 800m is scored. I came in 3rd out of 20 with a 2:52.2 if that's any help.

there are different ways.

middle school in my league uses the follwing at dual meets and not championships:

1st- 5

2nd-3

3rd-1

again, thats just what we use
