  1. The GED tests your knowledge of general subjects you should know something about by the end of high school. It is only 1 test. A high school diploma says that you have completed all the required subjects of that school, which includes PE and other courses. It shows that you have taken and passed numerous tests and you have completed 4 years of study. Obviously a lot more work has gone into getting a high school diploma than a GED, and that is why it is considered more valuable in the workforce.

However, if you go on to college, then everything changes and employers really only care how you did in college. The high school record becomes practically meaningless if you demonstrate that you are doing college-level work. But, college-level work can be much more difficult for those with a GED because they are not used to the work involved that high school prepares them for.

  2. You get your GED after high-school, they test you on 5 different levels for you GED. If you pass all 5 categories, then you are presented your GED.

  3. GED stands for General Educational Development. You may have heard people refer to the GED as the General Educational Diploma or the General Equivalency Diploma, but these are incorrect. GED is actually the process of earning the equivalent of your high school diploma, which is called a GED certificate or credential. <(from website)

A GED is supposed to be equal to the high school diploma, but there is a social stigma attached to GED. People either believe that the person wasn't good enough to finnish high school or they think that means that they dropped out. To many people, it doesn't matter why you got you GED instead  of your high school diploma because they view that as cheating or taking the easy way out, even though it is supposed to be equal.
