  1. I also have no knowledge of Americanization in Australia, but Americanization (and Westernization) is everywhere. I'm in Poland right now and English words are being worked into the language. I've also lived in Germany and they say things like "pink" instead of "lila" and "Happy End". As far as media goes, channels like MTV and VH1 and shows like Friends, Scrubs, House, etc. are all over the television. It's almost impossible to avoid American culture when you watch those shows, and people learn from the TV shows they watch, thus a country becomes Americanized.

  2. I'm not in Australia but I would say that the American media (Hollywood movies and syndicated TV shows) are making the entire world too American. It's not America's fault, it just wants to sell movies, it's the fault of all the countries who buy these movies, because, like a Trojan Horse, these movies conceal American cultural biases as well as display a dismal if privileged way of life, rife with questionable morals.

I live in the MIddle East and I grimace to myself when Indian teenagers (could be Lebanese too) prance around with loud American accents and bellybuttons showing. These are things not native to this part of the world and it is actually frightening to think that these kids are growing up with little knowledge or respect for their own cultures.
