How is the North European surname "Schitter" pronounced?

I need to know because I need to announce the person's name at a ceremony.

  1. I think it's pronounced..."rek--toom"


  2. Ask the person. I've heard it pronounced with a long "i", so it is like "Shy-ter" or "Shy-der"

  4. Unfortunately, the correct original pronunciation is probably exactly as you'd think. However, the name's owners may have changed the pronunciation for that very reason--someone mentioned it having a long "i"; well, that would be why the "i" was long. Definitely ask the person (tactfully!) if you get a chance.
