I will be staying at the Royal in Cancun in late november. Just wondering if anyone has been there before and if it is nice. Pictures look great from what I see. Thanks to all that answer.

  1. Is it the Royal Sunset?? If so, I have a review on a personal website that you might want to check out: I was there once and did like it.... it was a pleasant stay.

    Hope you enjoy your trip.

  2. We just got back from staying in Royal. IT IS THE BEST!!!

They will pamper you like there is no tomorrow. Make sure to go and reserve a "chef's plate" when you check in . Its pretty cool.

Food is fantastic. liquor is top shelf (but ask for it by name). Like I drink whiskey. So I would order JW Black label for example.

The staff is super friendly. Just avoid the "gold card" table. Its their version of timeshare and they try to ask you to sign up for a presentation were they try to sell you a package. We flat out refused to go to the presentation. But if you have 90 minutes to waste and are very very good at saying NO to them a 1000 times, than you can check it out.

I think you have made a very good choice.

If you ever doubt yourself go to the hotel to the right of Royal. (I think is called Royal grand caribe) its part of the same family so you can use their amenity (although they can not use yours). But it really sucks in comparison to Royal so when you come back to your hotel you will have a new appreciation for it.

Tipping: Do not tip like you do in the states. Remember you package (assuming you have the all inclusive) includes all gratuity. So tip here and there if service is EXTRAORDINARY, but please do not feel like you have to tip after ordering every drink like you do in the states. There were somedays that I did not tip a dime and othere days were I did and I found absolutely no difference in the level of service.

    Enjoy your stay

and have a "mango tango" for me.

    cheers

  3. The property was recently renovated. It sits right in the middle of the strip. The beach is great there . All rooms are new and very Caribbean. Food and service are wonderful. They will cater to your every need. Ever since this hotel has opened it has been full. Have a great time .

  4. Just got home from Cancun, I did not stay at the Royal, but did see it during my trip, it was a very pretty hotel ( most of the big hotels are). This hotel is actually in a great location. It is centralized in the hotel zone so you will be right in the middle of all the restaurants and clubs and shopping they will be right within walking distance, so you'll save money on bus or taxi fares.

It was very hot & HUMID! If you'r going to do alot of walking bring sun protection: sunscreen, hat, even a small hand fan to try to keep cool.

Also bing lots of small bills, no one likes giving change.

Exchange your money there you get a better rate.

Bargain as much as you can to people who want to sell you anything ( tour packages & street vendors). Also if you speak spanish they offer you a better deal.

    Have a fun, safe trip!
