Question:

How is the SAT accepted by colleges?

I have heard that colleges will take the best score you made on the SAT from all the other times you took it. Do they take the best score you made on the whole test, or do they take the best score from the individual sections? (i.e. Reading, writing, math.)

  1. Just thats the joy of the SAT.

Most colleges (pretigious ones, so I'm assuming even the average/below average ones as well), take your composite score. Composite is the best scores in each section.

So, people say the ACT is easier, but in the end SAT takers (who take it up to 3 times) get to get their composite, whereas the ACT is focused on only one test.

With that being said, I hear that most colleges will take the best scores in each section (composite) only up to three SAT tests. If you go beyond three tests, then they will take the average of all yours scores, which sucks. But I do know that University of California-Berkeley/UCLA take the best scores on your SAT even if your took the SAT 24432432 times. Look into each score and their criteria, because I'm sure each school sets their own guidelines. However, I do know that the colleges that take the best scores from only thee tests are the Ivyleague schools and most of the competitive schools on the East Coast.

  2. That depends on the college. The ones that I have visited told me that they take the best score from each section.

  3. Most likely best overall. otherwise it would make you look better, another reason it makes the teacher think and rethink options. they want to make it as qwuick and easy as possible for themselves.
