How is the average driving distance in golf calculated ?

Not every Pro golfer uses a Driver on every hole. Are long par 3's included ? Are these stats for driving distances misleading as they do not represent how far the pros actually hit the ball ?

  1. Referring to pgatour.com (link is below):

"... drives are measured on two holes per round. Care is taken to select two holes which face in opposite directions to counteract the effect of wind. Drives are measured to the point at which they come to rest regardless of whether they are in the fairway or not."

    Par 3s are not used.

  2. Its Only On Selected Hole(Not Sure Which Ones) And You Gotta Be In The Fairway.

  3. no... it is only included on those wholes where the player uses a driver and 3 wood.

  4. Par 3's are not included, most tournaments use the Par 5's (only) to calculate driving distance. Generally a Par 5 is where they want to try an gain most distance, of where par 3's is they are wanting to hit the green and not a 80m wide fairway.

  5. The pga tour statistic actually takes number of drives hit And averages distance from there. Otherwise the tour pros average distance would be way wrong due to the fact they often hit irons on par 4s etc..
