Ok so my mum has said that i can get a horse if i save up for it my target is pretty steep at £5,000 for a 12 yr old lol and i am not even a quarter way there!

I'm to young to work so how do i get all of this money ??

I am determend to get this horse because i have been riding for 3-4 yrs now and so many of my friends have horses but they can't ride as good as me i think its so unfair and i just want a horse of my own so that i can take it to shows and just show off really and beat my friends on there horses because just because they have there own horse they think there better riders than me so i just want to prove them wrong :D

So basically what is the best way for me to get £5,000 in about 1 yr or 2 :D

  1. I would rob a bank or pawn off mums jewelry. NO! Just kidding about that one.

I know this may be the exact opposite of what you want to hear. But, unless parents are going to back and provide the monetary assets for a minor who is unable to get a job- then the answer would be not to even consider getting a horse right now. Crazy Kitten is right. You have more things to worry about other than just the money for the horse- in most cases, purchasing the horse is the cheapest part. It's the vet bills, boarding, farrier, tack, training, and hay and feed that runs up the bill.

Second, don't go critiquing other riders. We were all beginners at some point and you stating that your 'friends' can't even ride as good as you is not only pompous- but who wants a friend that bashes their riding. Not only would it make anyone hard to be around you, with you thinking you're the best, but to many GREAT riders quit because barn mates made fun and insulted so much it takes the fun out of a sport they love.

And getting a horse for the sole purpose of showing off is sad, not for you, but for the poor horse. What animal wants to have to put up with being a 'trophy'? And what even guarentee's you that A) you'll even have the money to show and B) the horse is in fact going to win so you can 'show off' that you're a better rider.

I don't know. I think you should consider leasing until you can afford a horse and all it's bills on your own.

  2. a job is a good start.

and you'll need more then that to be able to buy a horse, vet check, stabling, ferrier, ect. double that and you may have enough to buy the horse and keep it for a year *depending on costs and your area*

hmmm i wonder what blonde thumbs me down? dallas how do you propose to get money for a horse? i'm waiting for some wonderful ideas about making money that do NOT involve a job.

    school=education=good job=money=horse.

IT's not that hard to figure out.(and easier to figure out that dallas is the ___(you fill in the blank)___ that thumbs me down. sry fact of life, job=money

note: you can work at a stables for pennies and save that up, that's a job and you can be around horses. not that i like suggestion that, but i am pointing out that WORKING is a really good way to get money.

  3. well i would reword that first part. it sounds kinda snotty. i seriously hope you do love horses otherwise i would tell you off. well i would just get a summer job at a stable or something or anything at a stable. then you can ask your mom for a raise in your allowance if you get one and if that doesnt work then i dont kno wat you can do...

  4. do well in school and goto uni and get a good job, then horses can always be apart of your life

as for now, get a part time job as soon as u can.

mow lawns, BABY SIT, anything to bring in cash

  5. I don't mean to sounds mean or nasty but from reading about you want a horse for the wrong reason.

You should want a horse because you love them and want to have the brilliant responsibilty of owning one, not because you want to show your friends you're 'better' than them.

I think your mum is doing the right thing.

However ... have you asked at local yards if anyone would let you do some work for a bit of pocket money? Have you asked you mum if she can provide you with more house duties so that you can earn more pocket money?

    Good luck

ADD  - As I said, I wasn't trying to be mean just making a note, but hey, if you love them and are ready for the massive responsibilty then go for it. Other than my daughter, owning my horse and all my previous horses has been the most rewarding thing in life.

Are there any paper rounds you can do? Or are you too young? See if any of your neighbours need their dog walking but make sure you take a friend or preferrably a parent with you to go walking on your own.

And .. make sure your parents are aware of how much ££'s goes into caring for a horse, they won't want any suprises : )

Good luck, I hope it works out for you

  6. You are soundig alot selfish. Im ten and have been riding for seven years and dont have a horse. That is definetly not a good reason to by a horse. Your supposed to want a horse becouse you love the animal  and get a thrill every time you ride not because  your friends  have some and you want to show them your better. Im alot better than most of my friends and we still show together not against eachother. And fyi your friends are probobly alot better than you.

  7. Some may disagree with me, but I think it's pretty cruel for an adult to tell someone as young as you that you can have a horse *if* you come up with an incredibly high amount of money.  Heck, I am 25 and work full time and even I would need some time to come up with that kind of cash.

You're not going to like my answer, but the best way to make money to buy and support horses is through education, so you can get yourself a stable, well-paying job.  There are still some jobs out there that pay will which don't require college, but they are getting scarcer by the day.  My dad was able to support his family working in a factory his whole life, but those days are over for my and your generation!  College is the answer.

In the meantime, maybe you could look into leasing a horse or working in return for riding time.  5,000 pounds is a LOT of money for a 12 year old, sorry.  It was mean of your mom to tell you what she did.

  8. Lusitano and silvaspurranch are absolutley right.

5,000 is even alot of money for us we work in full time and on top of working full time I train / buy and sell full time and it would take me a bit to get that sort of money too. I dont think you have a good graps on the concept of money just yet...or the value of a dollar...

Ultimatley though - nothing is impossible BUT it might be a really good idea, as Lusitano said, to lease. Just be realistic thats all.  Swallow your pride kid.  Just because youre other friends have their own horses and you dont doesnt make anyone any better of a rider. What makes a TRUE rider is a committed horse person. That means, being willing to work for the horse, go without your own for a while, lease one get EXPERIENCE.  If you love them, owning them isnt what its all about...trust me...its about showing that you will spend 24 hours a day with them, love them, ride them as much as you can.  The buying is the cheap part kiddo, after that its 300+/month to maintain it, ferrier, vet, feed, tack, blankets and the whole s**+-bang.

Trust me - be patient and the right horse will come along for you.

    Good Luck :)

    EDIT****

CRAZY KITTY GIRL - First of all I DIDNT give you a thumbs down I gave you a thumbs up so stop making rediculous accusations.  I thought your answer made alot of sense.  Not to mention that not once in my answer did I ever say she didnt need to get a job...HAHAHA WHO ARE YOU ANYWAYS?  honestly....

And for your information - there ARE plenty of ways to make money without a job.  I do it every day. Regardless...she is 12 and too young to get a real job. Were you not reading?....

Wow. I love how people attack you outright in here when they know nothing.

If Id of known bc I had a blonde Avatar Id get accused of giving thumbs down I guess now, I would give you a thumbs down for being no more mature than a 12 year old.
