Question:

How is the best way to start off an acting carreer?

I'm 14, and I love to act. I know what i'm doing too. I don't live in New York or Chicago or LA or anything, so it's awfully hard to find a big break. I also don't have connections like most people do. I really really REALLY want to act, and I know that the earlier I start the better.

Help, please.

You don't know how much I would appreciate it.

  1. you need to start a portfolio of some head shots. send it to some casting agencies. then if they are interested they will call you in for a screening.

you may want to consider going to acting school- i hear there is a really good one in chicago. sorry but i forget the name.

just keep following your dream and it can happen. dont let anyone discourage you.

  2. Whatever you do, continue to act.  You are 14 and I believe that you think you may have talent, but I'm here to tell you that talent will get you started, but experience with keep you going.  You are still young and there is much to learn.  Reigning in your ego is a BIG lesson.  There is nothing that other actors hate more than someone who is inexperienced and unable to take direction.  Unless you're going into opera, divas are just plain annoying and don't get cast when their reputation proceeds them.

You will want to work with lots of different directors.  Every director is different and it will serve you well to have lots of experience with different directing styles.  Will you always be happy?  No!  But you will be a better person and actor for it.

If you're serious about taking it to the next level DEFINATELY go to school, but you may want to have options to fall back on when you're not getting any parts (and that WILL happen at some point).  However my BEST advice is to audition for EVERYTHING!

  3. You do not start with photos or classes or agents.  YOu start where you are, acting in every show you can, you do this for years, and then look for professional classes.

  4. you need to get headshots, start a portfolio, take more classes or do more plays in the meantime and send the submissions (2headshots 1 full body, resume, cover letter) to agencies in your area. good luck!
