How is the captain of a school team chosen?

this year im going to be in 7th grade and in volleyball with people in my grade, and 8th graders. i no you have to have spirit, be a good player ect. buy who choses? the coach or the people on the team? can you vote for yourself? do you think i have a chance especially with a bunch of 8th graders?

Team votes, or coach just chooses.  The coaches I had let you vote for yourself but usually you wouldn't..=P.  The captain is usually a good leader and a good leader would usually be the starting setter.

my team votes for captains, but in the end its the coaches final decision.
