The articles of the constitution are not "set in stone" and are subject to interpretation.  The classic example is the 2nd amendment of the constitution regulating the right of the people to keep and bear arms.  However, if you look at it from one point of view, most of the controversy surrounding the constitution comes from the interpretation of the AMENDMENTS which make the document flexible.
