  1. Not good because all of the development has come to a screeching halt, the trades have been invaded by non-licensed, inexperienced, and often illegal migrants who work for cash and don't guarantee their work.  And, because most people have had their lines of equity frozen or already borrowed enough to be upside down owing more than their house is worth, there isn't much in the way of home improvement, remodels or construction in general going on in the residential market.  That being said, there is a short term opportunity in the foreclosure market for skilled construction trades people.  The REOs (foreclosures owned by the banks) that have been damaged, left stripped of wiring, plumbing, HVAC systems, architectural embellishments and left with major issues affecting livability are being refurbished for sale.  Little businesses are springing up to clean these properties up, ready them for resale or auction and perform the work necessary for the banks to recoup at least some of their investment.
