  1. About 8 hours.

No real mountains, just high hills.

    Boring drive.

    Carry water just in case.

Watch for cops when going through the Palm Springs area.

    Quartzite, Arizona.

  2. And wait to gas up until after you cross over into AZ.  Quartzsite is much cheaper than Blythe to gas up in.

  3. The drive takes about 8 hours. I don't remember any really windy parts and have gone back and forth between Tucson, AZ and LA four times. It's pretty much all desert, nothing much to look at. Have a safe trip!

  4. If you are close to the 10 in LA, depending upon traffic, it will take about seven hours, less if there is no traffic. It's a little boring, bring drinks, but not a bad ride at all.

  5. I am not sure how fast those other people drive but it takes me 6 hours from Phoenix to LA  on I-10 and it is relatively flat - no mountains and boring so have good music or a book on tape or someone to talk to.

  6. A lot of desert to see along the way but not much else.

  7. It shouldn't take more than 6 hours - it's only about 330 miles. It's pretty flat and boring. There's no especially windy or mountainous part. This time of the year, I try to do it at night to avoid the heat.

  8. It's fun on the California side, there's the Cabazon outlet mall, Patton Museum, and that place with the huge dinosaurs that the kids like to have their pictures taken.  There is a section of desert that is exposed to the Santa Ana wind, I don't remember where, but there are signs to warn you.  The issue is the lack of visibility when the wind picks up and becomes a dust storm.  The drive from the California State line to Phoenix have nothing to offer, but there seems to be less cops on the AZ side.  Be careful of overpass, police likes to hide on the on ramp in pairs.  So just because there is a pace car in front of you does not make it safe to speed.  Something to consider is going to Phoenix via the I-8 from San Diego.  Different scenery all together.  If you choose to do that, you have to stop at the Space Age Inn in Gila Bend.  It's just weird, but fun.
