Kristen was in her dress that she wore at the beginning of the film symbolizing a wedding dress. James had his black suit on symbolizing a tuxedo. Kristen also had on her wedding ring. The man in the mask was also wearing a suit that I think symbolized him being the man that reads out of the book at weddings (I don't know what that's called).

The ending is somewhat ambiguous, and a pretty good final touch that goes against the typical horror movie ending.

However the car on fire symbolizes a destructive event which can have both good and bad consequences for the couple. In It can also mean a symbol for a the sacrificing of the couple made by the killers.

Another symbolization occurs within the forest...A forest or wooded place tends to suggest mystery, the unknown, often, it seems, something hidden, and in some cases dangerous. One has to be careful in a forest. On a deeper symbolic level, the darkness of the forest makes it the perfect metaphor for the dark unconsciousness. The danger of exploring a forest is thus the danger of exploring the deep and hidden, something not so pleasant, layers of oneself.

Lastly, the first time blood is presented in the movie is when Katherine (Liv Tyler) accidentally cuts her palm with the knife and the red blood, as in most horror/thrillers symbolizes danger. This is of course because the sight of red blood is an ancient signal that something bad is happening to you. For prehistoric man, seeing blood was the most basic warning - get away! In horror movies red is therefore often used as a substitute for blood. Actual blood is also used as a messenger of great danger.

btw...The masks were a symbolism of greek theater that a true american tragedy.
