  1. It's a fixed number which differs depending on the competition. For test matches the team batting second has to get within 200 runs of the total posted by the first team. For the County Championship, they have to get within 150 runs.

  2. In a match of five days or more, a side which bats first and leads by at least 200 runs has the option of requiring the other side to follow-on.

    in one of three or four days, 150 runs;

    in a two-day match, 100;

    in a one-day (two-innings per side) match, 75.

  3. In this 199 runs are midness from the first batting side . For eg England scores 364 runs and New need 165 runs to avoid follow on.

  4. In a two innings match of 5 days or more, the side which bats first and leads by at least 200 runs shall have the option of requiring the other side to follow-on.

    The same option shall be available in two innings matches of shorter duration with the minimum required leads as follows:

    (i) 150 runs in a match of 3 or 4 days;

    (ii) 100 runs in a 2-day match;

    (iii) 75 runs in a 1-day match.

  5. applicable to Test cricket with 2 innings.

    Follow-on is a term used in the sport of cricket to describe a situation where the team that bats second is forced to take its second batting innings immediately after its first, because the team was not able to get close enough to the score achieved by the first team batting in the first innings.

    The number of runs by which a team must lead to enforce follow-on upon its opponent is determined by Law 13 of the Laws of cricket, which takes the length of the match into consideration:

    In a match of five days or more, a side which bats first and leads by at least 200 runs has the option of requiring the other side to follow-on.

    in one of three or four days, 150 runs;

    in a two-day match, 100;

    in a one-day (two-innings per side) match, 75.

  6. when they r 200 runs behind the opposition,a follow on can be enforced

  7. follow -on is applicable only for test matches. in a test match of 5 days without interruption by any thing, 200 runs minimum should be in the kitty of the team first batted. it is the first batting side captain's choice to enforce the follow on.

    if a day's play lost then also 200 runs will stay as the base.

    if two day's play lost then it is 150 runs. if three day's play lost it would 100 runs.will be the required runs in excess than the second batting side
