  1. Hurricanes require a warm sea surface with a temperature of atleast 26.5 degree celcius for their formation.This is mostly possible in summer only and that too at lower latitudes(tropics) where sun shines overhead most of the time in a year(in the tropics of both the hemispheres).

    So, they are frequent in summer and at lower latitudes.However they do not form within 5 degree latitude from the equator(on both hemisphere) as the coriolis force is weak near the equator.


  2. Hurricanes are most common during the summer and least common during the winter in the northern hemisphere.

    Areas between 5ºN latitude and 5ºS latitude cannot get hurricanes. Hurricanes are most common betweens latitudes of 5ºN and 30ºN.
