  1. The greatest driver is Hamilton. He's done really well in his first and second seasons. He'll be on the podium this year for sure.

  2. Jimmy Clark was a superb driver and if he had not been killed then he could well have been the greatest drivers of all time. Stirling Moss was a fantastic driver and was unlucky never to have won the F1 championship.

  3. Jimmy Clark in my book. He was utterly dominant in his era, winning 25 of the 60 GPs held from the start of the 1962 season until his death. The next most in this period was by Graham Hill, with 10 wins.

    Clark also retired from 25 of those 60 races, finishing 4 other times on the podium, 5 other times in the points (although two of those occasions he wasn't actually running at the finish, having retired from the lead late in the race in both Monaco and Mexico in 1964), and only once outside of the points -  in the very first race of 1962. That means, that in the period specified he won 71% of the races he finished, a quite staggering achievement; 85% of his race finishes were on the podium, 97% were in the points. If the Lotuses he was given to drive had held together a little more often then it is quite possible he could have matched Fangio's achievement of five world titles. When the Lotus did hold together, it took a very special performance from another driver to beat Clark on any given day.

    Stewart would be my second choice, he was never quite as dominant as Jimmy, but he was easily the best driver from Clark's death until the emergence of Fittipaldi as a true championship contender.

  4. Sterling Moss

    Jackie Stewart

    James Hunt

    Damon Hill would have made it into my list but it is too early to see whether h is one of the greats

  5. People have their own opinions, depending when they fell in love with f1.

    Some will say

    Hamilton, the potentil to be great

    D.Hill, respected by many just for staying close to Schumcaer

    Mansell, typical Brit, good at throwing it away at the last moment, should of won 1986+1987 championships

    Hunt, personality extrodinare, lucky to be a champ, though

    G.Hill, if not for Clark, brilliant

    Stewart, very good at winning at the slowest possible speed

    Clark, probably would be the best, amazing talent

    Surtees, a 2 wheeled and 4 wheeled champ!

    or Moss, the most sucessful race winner not to win the championship

  6. Depends on the era. I'd go with Moss. Then Graham Hill equal with Jim Clark.

  7. In order.

    Clark

    Stewart

    G. Hill

  8. It's all relative. Todays racing driver has different things to contend with as did his counterpart say of 30 years ago.

    Damon Hill;

    Jackie Stewart;

    Mike Hawthorn;

    James Hunt;

    These are just a few that I can remember.

    If Lewis Hamilton keeps his head down; Keeps his ego in Check and keeps on winning then hopefully the accolade of Best Britsh racing driver will his one day.

  9. Jackie Stewart.  Why?  Because he's the only one I know.  :)

  10. For drama, out right speed and daring do id say Nigel Mansell

    for versatility Sir Stirling Moss

    for sheer natural talent Jim Clark

  11. I'd just add that the three amigos (Clark, Stewart, Hill) were racing at the same time as each other.  It is not often that you have three greats all competing at the same time.  Schumacher looked better than he was because the competition was good but not that strong (I do believe he was a great driver); Clark looked great but we lose sight of just how great given the strength of his competitors

  12. Stirling Moss for me!

  13. For me, James Hunt. His voice was hilarious, i'm not even sure why.

  14. jonny herbert, he wasnt really the best driver, but then again he never had luck on his side when it came to formula one.

    nearly every other race he didnt finish due to car failure, or someone crashing into him.

  15. Jim Clark will always be the best UK driver followed by Jackie Stewart
