How is the iPod nano's music quality?

Now, I have a 1st gen ipod nano and compared to my zune, the music quality is noticeably not as good. When I turn the volume up, some songs get scratchy, but the same doesnt happen on my zune. So I was wondering if I bought a new ipod nano, would I be disappointed. Also, does anyone know when apple is going to release a new line of ipods? I dont want to buy an ipod only to see a new design released a year later.

The first gen might have a little bit lesser quality sound. But as far as the current mp3 players, they all pretty much have the same quality. Now, some will argue that the iPod's have better sound because they can take higher quality sound files, but I disagree. Honestly, the quality of the mp3 player has nothing to do with the player itself, but the headphones you're using. Use crappy headphones? You'll have crappy quality on every player. Honestly, there's never a way to know when apple will come out with a new line. The current line hasn't been out a year yet, so I don't see them getting a new line this fall. FYI: Most "new models' get released late summer/early fall to get ready for the upcoming holiday season! I'd say they'll probably come out with new ones either next year (fall '09) or the year after (fall '10). And about the "nano touch" rumor... completely false. I hear about new releases very early, and trust me, nothing like that is coming out. My "sources" haven't mentioned any new iPods, and those include an Apple Rep. With the technology world, no matter when you buy something, a better one is always going to come out soon after. It's a never ending circle that you can't escape. Good luck!

Yes it will be better.  I've bought a new iPod every time a new one came out and each new generation has better sound and my current iPod (iPod Touch) has the best.  I heard that the new iPod Nano Touch is rumored to come soon so you should wait until they new iPod comes out.

I have a zune and my friend's 8 gb Ipod sounds pretty good! It sounds better than zune, so the 8gb ipod nano has awesome sound!
