  1. The job market for teachers depends completely upon which state and county you apply to.  Some states, such as Michigan, do not have teaching positions.  Apply to large school districts in states that do not place a heavy emphasis on teachers' unions.  I have a master's degree in education, and I am glad I do.  You will get paid more that way.  I cannot tell you which cities have a good job outlook right now.  I honestly do not know.

  2. In my area the jobs are pretty scarce.  I live in a suburban area.  With the government cuts as teachers are retiring they are just forcing teachers already in the districts to take over rather than hiring new.  However, that being said over the next 5-10 years we are going to have a massive amount of retirees.  If you go to the big cities jobs are abundant but pay is not.  Milwaukee is practically begging for teachers.

As for the master's degree.  I have one, and the extra pay is nice.  I earned my master's degree after starting as a teacher.  In Wisconsin, it's hard to get a job if you have a master's degree and no teaching experience.  Districts don't want to pay more for teachers when there are so many others out there either with experience or without experience but only a bachelor's degree.

  3. I teach in Texas, and the job market is good, especially for math, science, and special education teachers. Depending on the district it is beneficial to get your master's degree. At my district you just get 1,000 dollars more a year...to me, that isn't worth it. If you want to make more money become a principal of some kind. Texas has a high rate of teacher turnover, so there are a lot of openings all the time. However, you have to wonder why all the teachers here quit unless they aren't being treated correctly. You can't beat the job security though if you decide to stick with it.
