  1. Direct democracy is mob rule.

For instance, if the hot topic of the week is illegals, then direct democracy would result in anti illegal laws being passed.

Then the next week some guy that is g*y does some horrendous crime and there is a backlash against g**s, then a lot of anti g*y laws are passed.

Then the following month some kid shoots up another high school and the result is laws are passed that turn schools in to prisons.

    The scenario's are endless.

That is why there is no such thing as a direct democracy, but rather a republic with democratic values.  Thus laws can be passed by the legislatures that the people don't really want, but is for the good of the country.

The problem with many of those with a republic system, is the legislature and those in power have a vested interest to keep their jobs and thus are influenced by that fat cat, who may or may not have the countries best interest at heart.

Politicians accept money from big business in the form of campaign financing.  Because of that, they know if they go against those special interests it can result in less campaign funding or they just may pull the rug out from under them.

It is a rare politician who will only accept money from the people.

That is why, in part, I support Obama.

On his web site, if you donate you must pledge that you are an individual.
