I am doing a workshop on drugs and fairtrade and wondered how the money was split between farmers and distributors etc. I can find it for bananas and chocolate but not cocaine. Does anyone have any ideas?

  1. To much gtA

  2. Farmers get a very small percentage. Most goes to those in later stages of production importation and distribution.

  3. It's not exactly on the level, so you're not going to get good data.  But that doesn't matter since the comparison is largely inappropriate.  To describe the situation accurately is too complicated for Yahoo Answers, but Thoumi had this to say:

In the cocaine indusry, the value added at each stage of manufacture bears no relation to the way such factors are computed in the manufacture of legal products. ... In other words, the high value added in this industry is due to the illegal nature of the risks this imposes.  Thus, peasants in Bolivia and Peru get a very small share of the final sales price because their risk is comparatively low; while most of the price increases takes place at the marketing distribution end of the business, in the United States, where the risks are much greater.

I think that's more or less accurate, though criminals at the top have low risk and high pay.  If you need more than that, I'm sure you can get some numbers from various government publications, though you shouldn't take them at face value.

  4. Doubt any farmers are involved in this business.

Try the FBI or the CIA, I hear they take a split.
