We are looking to buy a home in northern virginia but location (because of traffic) is important. Metro and VRE are not options.

  1. extremely heavy traffic all the way out to manassas

  2. It can get pretty heavy on workdays.

Try looking around Annandale or Fairfax.

  3. Traffic is heavy in the DC area no matter WHERE you live. I LOVE living in Reston and highly recommend it. If you are an early bird, are travelling with 2 people or more, your commute will be easier in the Reston area than in others. Because of HOV lanes, you need to travel with 2 or more, or leave before 6am. There is also a bus system that works pretty well but is still time consuming. I use the Herndon Monroe parking garage, free parking, and catch a bus that will go directly into Roslyn where I hop on the metro or go directly by bus to Lenfant Plaza. Biggest problem for us is when there are more than 3 flakes of snow. Everything STOPS!!! I work 8 miles away and it took me 2.5 hours to get to work one day. But this is very unusual!!
