How is the quality of Jamis bikes? I am looking to buy my daughter her first adult sized bike ($300)?

I had her sized to a 14.5 frame and 26" wheels, she really loved the bike she was sized with but my Aunt isn't sure on the quality. It's a $300 bike that the sales person said would last her a lifetime. Any input? I have never bought a "real" bike before. Thanks

  1. I have ridden jamis bikes...for the money I would say forget it they have an awful ride quality and forget there customer support....Try a specialized they have good customer support and decent ride quality. Jamis bikes dont last a lifetime.

  2. From what i understand, Jamis makes a pretty decent bike(i, however, have never ridden one). If you feel pressured into buying the bike, just leave, its a crappy bike store.(for some reason i get the feeling that you felt pressured, don't know why). Since i can't tell you of the quality of a Jamis bike, i can tell you that these brands do offer good quality, relatively cheap Mountain bikes: look into lower end specialized, GT, Haro, mongoose (not the walmart ones).

  3. What people call "real" bikes are the  ones you don't buy at Walmart and other department stores. Jamis bikes are nice and $300 is not bad for a real bike.  Some people think that a bike is a bike regardless of how it's made.  The fit is the most important thing in buying a bike and it will outlast any bike you will find at Walmart.

You can look up "jamis bike reviews" on Google and find the model that you are looking at.

  4. From time to time, I have recommended Jamis as a possibility for people looking for a good value in a new bike.

HOWEVER...I wrote Jamis regarding some issues I had with the manner in which one of their [unprofessional] dealers represented the product.  I never heard back from Jamis.  That has definitely skewed my opinion of Jamis regarding future transactions.

Do I think Jamis makes a good product for the money?  Overall, probably.  I don't think it's a question of the quality of the product, but I do have doubt with the quality of their customer service standards.

BUT...the salesperson's statement that the bike would last your daughter a lifetime is hogwash.  I'm guessing your daughter is still in school??...And this fine salesperson thought he'd close the sale with some cheap line?  A complete loss of credibility in my book.  No company makes a $300 bike that will last a lifetime.  Not even Jamis.

Spend your money however it pleases you and your daughter.  I would encourage you to at least look at some other products...preferably from a different LBS.
