How is the road from Mysore to Ooty?

Last year Jan 07 I drove to Ooty from Mysore and the hill road was very bad. It took me nearly 4 hours to cover the ghat section. Has the road been repaired and tarred since then? Is it adviceable to use the shorter route to Ooty? Do the elephants charge at vehicles when not provoked?

The Gudalur Pykara Ooty road was very bad last year and this year but road works were in progress expected to complete by April.  I dont know whether the recent rains affected the roadworks.  The other side, Kotagiri  road had several landslides.  The ghat road between Masinagudi and Thalakundah was very good last year.

i will advise you to go via gudulur then mudumalai as the road is in very bad shape as i was there just two month before
