How is the scoring at Roland Garros?

I saw some matches went for a tiebreaker like 7-6 but today's Sharapova's match had to be finished at 8-6 in the decider set. Why is that, some sets are finished like 7-6 while others have to be 8-6, etc.?

  1. In the grand slam events, except the U.S. Open, the final set (either the 5th set for the men or the 3rd set for the women) is played out after 5-5 until someone wins by two games. The U.S. Open is the only major to use a tie-breaker to decide a match.

  2. in all grandslams except us open, there are no tie-breaks in the last set.. (5th set for men and 3rd set for women)

the first player who gets the two games difference wins the final set..and of course the match..

  3. in grand slams the fifth set isn't defined by a tiebreaker, they just keep playing until there's a two game difference, that's whay maria had to play until 8-6.-

the only exception is the us open, cause in one oportunity the score was (i believe) something like 50-48, so the next year they change it and the fifth set it's defined by a tiebreak also.-

    hope that answer your question.-
