How is the scoring of Literati decided. Played someone with a score 8 higher than me.He won, got 15 points mad

Just played Literati with someone whose score was 1708. mine was 1695. He won and was given 15 points for winning. How does the scoring work because this seems crazy for him to get so much when our scores were so close.

15 points is average when ratings are close. had his rating been say 1780 then you would of only lost ten points,but if you won you would of gotten 20 points.    beat a much higher rate=more points  lower rate =less
