How is the situation in Bangkok?

planning to go bangkok next wk, is it safe to go? Learn from the news that thousands of protestors are on streets........

  1. So far it's not a problem, there have been some protests at the British Embassy and marches in some of the areas tourists might go. Today the protesters took over a government run tv station (NBT) that's located outside of the city center not far from the old airport. I was out for much of the day and it was business as usual everywhere I went, although traffic did seem lighter than usual. It's safe, the last coup was bloodless and I would think as long as you avoid the protesters things will seem normal. I suppose it's possible things could get worse, the current PM (Samak) who is at the center of the protests has vowed to get tougher with the protesters. I wouldn't let it stop you, everything will most likely seem normal in 99% of the city, even if it does get bad, you can watch history being made.

  2. Bangkok is definitely safe as long as you stay in the right areas of the site and stay away from the poorer districts.
