Sparky's Diner (in Chetpet) is really an excellent restaurant!  As long as you like American style food of course  I ate there quite a few times when I was in Chennai.

The place is run by an American named Thom Petty.  The prices are reasonable and the ambiance is interesting - It has kind of a TGI Fridays type atmosphere but in an original sort of way.  The meal portions are large, so it is good to go when you have a big appetite.  The Chicken Marsala was my favorite and I also liked the Mexican dishes.  Bottomless drinks like iced tea and lemonade are available.  The brownie sundae is a winner too.  In my opinion Sparky's is no doubt the best western-style restaurant in Madras.
