  1. I believe it is very difficult to calculated tyre spring rate however it is definately measured. They measure vertical spring rate and add that figure to the total wheel rate calculation (Yes, on a crude press with scalles test 1/2PSI deos quate to around 50lb more vertical stiffness)

    The other rates of intrest are lateral deflection at differing loadings and angle relative to the track. Especially the behaviour in the transiants.

  2. spring rate of tires is not calculated. spring rate is spring rate calculated by weight distribution on different types of tracks, affected by the the turns and speeds.

  3. by the number of bubbas that can sit on the fender without causing the suspension to bottom, while eating big azz sandwiches during lunch.  

  4. I remember Larry Mcreynolds saying one that a Half pound of air is similar to 5 pounds of spring rate .
