How is the surf in NY?

I want to surf in NY . But , actually I don't know the ditails about surfing in NY .

Montauk has a fantastic reputation, and I have been there for some great days, but that was years back. Now, for all of New York it is a typical east coast break, that is very fickle and is usually at its smallest in the summer. But there are lots of places to surf on Long Island, and plenty of surfers there, so it must have something going for it.
