  1. The teams are seeded like this:

Team 1- Division winner with the best regular season record

Team 2- Division winner with the second best regular season record

Team 3- Division winner with the third best regular season record

    Team 4- Wild card

So Team 1 plays Team 4 and Team 2 plays Team 3, with Team 1 and Team 2 having home field advantage.

If Team 4 and Team 1 are from the same division, though, Team 1 will play Team 3, and Team 2 will play Team 4.  Home field will remain the same.

  2. This is a good question. Long story short, Best Team plays Wild Card Team unless WC team is in same division and then Best Team plays worst division winner.

  3. If you looked at the standings today, the Cubs would have the best record followed by Milwaukee. Milwaukee would be the wild card. The Mets would have a better record than the Western Division winner.

Because Milwaukee and Chicago are in the same division, they cannot play each other so the first round match ups would be Milwaukee at New York and the Western Division winner at Chicago because Chicago would player the lower of the two other division winners.
